Good News and Not Such Good News for Morpeth Station

9.06.50am GMT Thu 7th Feb 2008

Morpeth Station is to be one of forty stations across the country to benefit from a Department for Transport cash handout of £370m to improve accessibility. Lib Dems have been supporting SENRUG (the South East Northumberland Rail Users Group) in their campaign to make Morpeth Station, particularly the northbound platform, more accessible for disabled people, older people and parents with pushchairs. The good news is that this is to happen. The not such news however, is that the improvements - step-free access to platforms, lighting improvements, hearing induction loops and information screens - are not due to be completed until 2012 at the earliest!
