Road Works Update

7.21.00pm GMT Mon 14th Jan 2008

The road works needed for the Car Park in Dark Lane are now largely complete, with the new roundabout at Dacre Street working well and the improved junction at Stanley Terrace making it safer for the residents of Burnside to get in and out of their street.

Disruption at Wellway and Manchester Street will continue until early March for Northumbrian Water to upgrade the sewage overflow system. Wellway will be closed to traffic for all or most of this period, but St. James' car park will remain open with access from the Manchester Street end of Wellway.

The new 20mph zone, plus traffic calming measures in Howard Road, Copper Chare, Dacre Street and Cottingwood Lane, should be installed during March/April. A decision on moving the Howard Road zebra crossing has been deferred for at least a year, following mixed responses from residents.
