Elections for New Council in May

8.50.00pm GMT Wed 16th Jan 2008

The Government has decided that the elections for the new unitary council will be held in early May 2008. The new unitary council for Northumberland will immediately run all the services currently carried out by the County Council and during the following year all the services run by Castle Morpeth Borough Council will be transferred to the new unitary council.

The May 2008 elections are therefore going to be very important. It will be crucial for voters to elect the right people to represent them and to run all the combined local services of the existing county and borough councils. Your new unitary councillor will replace your current County and Borough Councillors and this person will be your voice in relation to a vast range of local services.

FOCUS will be keeping you up to date on developments as the election approaches.
