Northumberland County Council - Labour's Legacy

8.48.00pm GMT Wed 16th Jan 2008

When the new unitary council takes over from Northumberland County Council in May it will be faced with the legacy of years of Labour political domination. Although Labour has run Northumberland County Council for decades their majority was slashed to 3 in the 2005 elections. This means that there is a real chance for voters to give the new unitary council a fresh start from May of this year.

FOCUS has reported a whole host of issues in and around Morpeth which stem from the failings of the Labour dominated County Council. The education reorganisation debacle, the closure of care homes, the state of our roads and pavements due to lack of maintenance, the lack of action on dangerous junctions such as the Sun Inn - the list goes on and on. Labour can't even blame central government for these problems because it has been in power there for ten years. It is time for a change and your votes in May can help to bring about that change.
