Working with residents of Howard Road, Councillor Les Cassie proposed a 20mph zone with appropriate traffic calming measures for Howard Road and the surrounding streets. This has now been overwhelmingly backed by residents in a formal consultation. Also Dacre Street residents, at a meeting with Les and recently elected Town Councillor Graeme Trotter, asked that they should be included in the 20 mph scheme. The County Council have now completed an additional formal consultation and again support is overwhelming, including a 250 signature petition organised by Graeme. Graeme Trotter said: "We are very grateful that Les has taken this on, as speeding and road safety has been an issue for a long time and at last we can see some positive steps being made to address this." County Highways' officers are working on details of the scheme, to include some excellent suggestions from residents, and we expect it to be in place early next year.
